This week, I'm FINALLY getting my hair cut. It's been five long months since my last trip to the salon, and my hair is a shapeless, drab mess. My poor stylist probably thinks I dumped her.
]]>I'm sitting here next to the baby as he chills in his bouncy seat, and we're rocking out to Talking Heads from my iTunes library. Hubby is doing (God help us) touch-up painting in the nursery. It's a very low-key, but perfectly lovely, Friday night.

But am instead posting a photo and looking for all the blogs I used to read daily. Turns out lots of mah ladies have given up the gig. Can't say I don't understand.

I guess that's what happens when you have a baby only ten days into 2008. Huh. Anyway, let's see, let's see. A list of random things in no particular order:
1. Remember all those posts at the end of last year about working on the nursery? IT IS STILL UNFINISHED. The boy sleeps in a bassinet in our room, and he's now too long for it, so I think last night was his last night in it (well, half night---he's not sleeping entirely through the night yet). While the thought of him sleeping in my arms in our bed for his entire night's rest fills me with much dread (it's okay for a couple of hours, but he's sleeping between five and six hours a night now), I think we may need to do that for at least tonight because, as much as my husband protests otherwise, I really don't think he'll finish painting the nursery and assembling the crib by tomorrow. PROVE ME WRONG, HON!
2. Speaking of the baby being too long for the bassinet, he is also too long for all the clothing that *should* fit him right now. He's a little more than two months old, but he wears footie pajamas that are size 9M (nine month). I look forward to the summer, when little short pants will be an option.
3. I am typing this post on my brand new computer. Well, not entirely "brand new," as I got it at Christmas.
4. All around my house are framed enlargements of nature photos I've taken. I recently snapped this one and am trying to decide if I should frame it/where it could go.

Definitely light rain and definitely light snow and definitely light ice pellets I really think I could be a lot more productive around the house if my feet were not swollen to a SIZE LARGER THAN I NORMALLY WEAR and my toes didn't look like plump, about-to-explode sausages.

I have not purchased larger shoes, as I have three pairs that still fit okay. (Notice I did not say they fit "well.")
Everyone keeps telling me (likely lying) that I don't look as pregnant as I am---which is a compliment in that I am smaller than most nearly eight-months-pregnant women they've seen. I just smile and joke that I'm carrying high and tight, like a military haircut. But really? People just think I'm not carrying OUT, which is what they typically associate with late pregnancy: the really out-there belly. My belly is the most out-there it's been (I've got the over-extended, highly curved spine happening too), but it doesn't look like it's protruding that far because my boobs are so big. The boobs are throwing everyone off and making my belly appear smaller. A different, less-supportive bra would change my shape entirely.
Speaking of bras, I have to invest in a nursing one soon. I will probably put that off until the last possible moment, as shopping for bras ranks right up there with a root canal or attending a World of Wheels stadium event or having my car radio broken and only able to broadcast country stations and Rush Limbaugh. If I could outsource bra shopping, I'd so do it.
I have only three more weeks left before I go on vacation and then maternity leave. I can't tell you how excited this makes me. The job itself is not exhausting; it's the getting dressed, getting to work, waddling around the building, getting home from work parts that wear me out. The commute is killer, no doubt about it. And I look forward to the time when I will not have to maneuver this large body behind the steering wheel and brave one of the worst commutes in the country (FACT!) to get to work. When you have to pee pretty much every 40 minutes, an hour+ commute? IS A NAIL BITER. And you know who loves to wiggle around and press against my bladder while I'm making this hellish commute? Yes, the baby. The little miracle who is already in head-down position and according to my doctor "measuring big for my due date." [panic!]
In related news, this will be The Christmas Of The Gift Card for us. I've explained to my husband that I will not be setting foot in a shopping mall this holiday season unless he intends to get me a Rascal scooter or something, so I can just drive around the stores all lazily. No walking waddling around with the crazy shoppers for me, thanks.
Speaking of husband, I am currently washing all of his "painting gear" so that it will be clean and fresh for when he dons it again this weekend. Sigh.
